In a perfect world, Elizabeth Taylor's possessions would all go into a permanent collection somewhere fabulous, and we'd get to view them whenever we wanted. Instead, Taylor's effects are getting treated to a "museum-quality auction" by renowned auction house Christie's. At least we get to see the pieces before they're whisked away by the highest bidder.

The Christie's auction is the most appropriate a send-off can be while still being an auction. Even though many of us think that Taylor's jewelry being scattered to the highest bidders is an absolute shame, at least we'll get to see the pieces up close before they go to the new owners: the traveling display will go to London, New York, Dubai, Paris, and other cosmopolitan destinations. Maybe, just maybe, a museum will snap up a lot and display it in a permanent collection.
