Like most 7-year-old girls of the 1960s, or any other era for that matter, I was deeply influenced by the fashion trends of the day. In my case, the object of my desires was a much coveted, and highly prized, mohair sweater.
For the uninitiated, mohair is the silky, fuzzy yarn spun from the hair of the Angora goat and woven into comfortable, colorful clothing. Well-known for its warmth, versatility and exceptional willingness to accept dye, a few well-constructed mohair sweaters were on the wish list of every young lady of style at the time.
