Three Upstate pageant contestants win preliminaries

Since Tuesday, the preliminary rounds have divided the 88 contestants into three groups for competition. Each woman performs nightly, but the groups rotate between talent, evening and swimwear for Miss South Carolina, and talent, evening and sportswear for Miss South Carolina Teen. Six winners are announced each night, and the pageant winners will be crowned Saturday night.

Thursday night's winners included Mya Kayler, Miss Greater Lyman, 19, who won the evening wear category. Kayler, from Gastonia, N.C., won the swimsuit preliminary during Tuesday's competition.

The amount of spandex and Lycra in the fabric accounts for the degree of slimming that is achieved.
